FÁRMACOS INTENSIFICADORES DO BRUXISMO DO SONO: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA

O bruxismo do sono é uma atividade repetitiva dos músculos mastigatórios, caracterizada por ranger ou apertar os dentes durante o sono, podendo causar desgaste dentário, dor muscular e disfunções temporomandibulares. Evidências indicam que fármacos psicotrópicos, especialmente antidepressivos e estimulantes, podem induzir ou intensificar esse distúrbio. Este estudo revisou a literatura científica sobre a relação entre o uso de fármacos e a intensificação do bruxismo do sono, identificando os medicamentos mais associados e seus possíveis mecanismos fisiológicos. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura, realizada entre 2014 e 2024, nas bases LILACS, SciELO, PubMed, ScienceDirect e Consensus. Os estudos apontaram que inibidores seletivos da recaptação de serotonina (fluoxetina, sertralina, escitalopram) e inibidores da recaptação de serotonina e noradrenalina (venlafaxina, duloxetina) estão entre os mais relacionados ao agravamento do bruxismo, possivelmente por desregulação dopaminérgica no gânglio basal. Estimulantes como metilfenidato e metanfetamina também mostraram associação significativa. Conclui-se que alguns psicotrópicos e estimulantes podem induzir ou agravar o bruxismo do sono, sendo essencial que cirurgiões-dentistas e médicos reconheçam essas interações para um manejo clínico adequado.
